According to the Bible, Jesus was born as a result of the supernatural conception of His earthly mother, Mary, through the working of the Holy Spirit of God. It was no ordinary conception through the physical unity of a man and a woman, but it was a miracle through the power, will, and initiative of God. This miraculous conception occurred because God supernaturally ordained it. This is found in the Bible in Luke 1:30-35:

"30Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” 34Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?” 35And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God."" (NKJ) (See also Matthew 1:18-25)

According to the story of creation in Genesis 1, God created everything by merely saying 'Let there be' and it was there. In the same manner, God spoke and Mary was supernaturally impregnated.

The Quran is in agreement with this. In Surah 3:46 it says:

She (Mary) said: ‘O my Lord, How shall I have a son when no man has touched me?’ He said: ‘Even so; Allah creates what He wills; when He has decreed a matter, He but says to it, ‘be’ and it is.

If Jesus was born because of the miraculous conception by the decree of God, who then can be called His Father? The word ‘father’ does not only mean the one who physically impregnate but also ‘contriver’ or ‘originator’ of something. If Jesus cannot call God, who supernaturally created His earthly nature, His Father, then He has no father, according to the Bible and the Quran.

One wonders why God would not want to call the person He supernaturally originated, His son. According to the Quran, Allah does not want to call the son he decreed by saying ‘be’ his son. Allah nevertheless regards this son (Jesus) highly enough to raise him up to himself in heaven (see Surah 4:157,158), and all this, while the final prophet, according to the Quran, died at the age of 62, was buried, and have never been seen since.

The Quran calls Jesus in Surah 4:171 “the Messiah” in Pickthall’s (1997:71) translation and “Christ” in Ali’s (2000:81) translations. Both words mean ‘anointed’ from the Hebrew word Messias and from the Greek word Cristos. This indicates that God anointed Him for the redemption work He came to do.

The fact is that Jesus, as the son of God, was “The Word” who according to John 1:14:

became flesh and lived for a while among us ... who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

This is confirmed by 1 John 2:22, 23:

"Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son. Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also."

Is it possible for the Son of God not to be a divine being? Clearly, Jesus is in a class of His own. No other prophet among the prophets mentioned in the Quran as well as the Bible, including Mohammed, was supernaturally conceived. Why would God exalt an ordinary human being like Mohammed above his divine Son Jesus Christ, as is claimed in the Quran as well as in the Hadith?

Islam is correct, however, in believing that Allah is not the father of Jesus. In fact, Allah had nothing to do with the birth of Jesus, because Jesus is the Son of the true God, Yahweh, and He came to save people (those who believe and accept it) from sin and to reconcile them to God.
